Freund Pottery (1784-1932)
Johann Freund joined the Spielbühler pottery as a journeyman in 1745. When his master dies, he marries the widow and founds his own workshop nearby. The pottery existed for five generations and almost 150 years. With the death of Heinrich Freund in 1932, the traditional pottery business comes to an end with his son, who had also learned the pottery trade, having died in France in 1918 and there not being a successor for the pottery.
The Freund pottery's production focuses on tableware with lead glaze containing iron oxide. Decorative vessels in the Art Nouveau style with green copper oxide glaze were added to the repertoire from 1900 onwards.
