Martin Luther (1483-1546) began work on the Old Testament while printing of the Septembertestament 1522 (September Testament of 1522) still went on. Part I with the overall title sheet was published in 1523 and included the five books of Moses (Pentateuch; Torah). Title page and the eleven full-page illustrations are probably related to Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) without the exact connections having yet been established. The smaller depictions are probably pure workshop productions. The title frame attributed to Georg Lemberger (c.1490/1500-1540/45) consists of a stylised archway, putti and, below, Christ Crucified and was created for the Prague Missal of 1522. It was published in the print shop of Melchior Lotter (1470-1549) which at that time was still located in Leipzig. In the front, a single-leaf woodcut with the portrait of Martin Luther was pasted into the volume. The volume is preserved among the holdings of the "Herzogliche Hof- und Staatsbibliothek" (Ducal Court and State Library) of the Landesbibliothek (regional Library) Coburg. Datum: 2016
