Proklamation des "Freistaats Bayern", 8. November 1918

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

Description

On the morning of 8 November 1918, the edition of the Munich Latest News appeared with an additional title page. It published the proclamation of the Free State of Bavaria, written by Kurt Eisner (1867-1919) during the night in the Bavarian Parliament. The proclamation declared the Wittelsbach dynasty as deposed and justified the revolution and assumption of power by a provisional council of workers, peasants and soldiers. Riots and violence should be prevented by the authority of the new government. Soon elections for a National Assembly were announced. The printed version differed in some points from the nocturnal draft. So it says there among other things: "Jedes Menschenleben soll heilig sein." (Every human life ought to be sacred). In Eisner's original draught, the sentence still read: "Kein Menschenleben soll geopfert werden." (No human life ought to be sacrificed). Datum: 2018
