Fuldaer Sakramentar - BSB Clm 10077

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

Description

Scholarship contentiously assesses both the place of origin and the original purpose of this sacramentary. Liturgy, handwriting and calendars refer to Corvey, but the type of book illumination points to Fulda. Maybe the manuscript was made in Fulda for Corvey. The magnificent manuscript has a binding made by a goldsmith with Carolingian ivory reliefs on the front and back covers. The reliefs depict scenes from the Life of Christ and are attributed to the court school of Charles the Bald (823-877).
