Jesuskind mit Weintraube

Description

Nude depiction of the Christ Child to illustrate the true humanity of Christ and, thus, the incarnation. During the fifteenth century, they were much appreciated – particularly in nunneries – where they were worshipped but also dressed up playfully. The boy in his still clumsy movement is clearly characterised as childlike and reminds in his ponderation and in the details of woodcarving of the sculptures of the 1462 high altar in Nördlingen, which must have been created by the same sculptor.
