Widderstatuette

Archäologische Staatssammlung München

Description

The bronze figure was found in 1893 while ploughing and acquired later by one of the functionaries of the Antiquarium at the Münchner Residenz (Munich Residence). The small ram distinguishes itself by its slim-waisted body, by a tail indicated by grooves, and by its large protruding ears. An additional stylistic trait, such as the artfully turned, volute horns, testify to its being Celtic in origin.
