Frühlingsglaube D 686

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

Description

Frühlingsglaube (Spring Faith) is the only poem by Ludwig Uhland (1787-1862) set to music by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). This handwritten version of the Lied, which Schubert later transposed from B flat major to A flat major, constitutes an early unprinted version of the song. Schubert apparently wrote very quickly and did not make corrections. At the end of the first line "man" (one) has erroneously been exchanged for "sie" (she). The second line of the first verse reads: "They purr and weave day and night," while the second line of the second verse reads: "You do not know what to do next." Therefore, it looks as if Schubert already thought about the second verse while still writing the first. Datum: 2016
