The virtual exhibition "Oktoberfest – History, Background, Highlights" is supplemented here by additional sources on the over 200-year history of the Oktoberfest. Interested visitors can obtain further information on the many historical facets of the world-famous folk festival. Its origins on the occasion of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (1786-1868, 1825-1848 King Ludwig I of Bavaria) in 1810 are illuminated, as are the various anniversaries, the Central Agricultural Festival, literature on the "Wiesn" or the Munich breweries. Special highlights are the photos from the holdings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library) and the colour lithographs of the 1835 and 1842 pageants from the Münchner Stadtmuseum (Munich City Museum).
The in-depth level "Sources and Descriptions about the Munich Oktoberfest" was created in 2010 as an offer of the Bayerische Landesbibliothek Online (BLO).
