Trauben- und Melonenesser

Alte Pinakothek

Description

Murillo’s genre paintings may be found without exception outside Spain, since they were sold all over Europe by art agents during the seventeenth century. Their theme consists mostly of children and beggars, who are depicted in what looks like every-day situations. Particularly touching in these paintings is the mixture of idealisation – nobody hungers, everybody is healthy - and their naturalism that makes them look so lifelike.
