Skizzen zu "Genoveva" und zwei Liedern

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek

Description

The double sheet contains sketches for several of Schumann's (1810-1856) late works: on the front and back of the first sheet is a sketch of Robert Schumann's first finale (no. 7) of the opera Genoveva, written in 1847-1850. On the upper right corner, you can see an addendum by Clara Schumann (1819-1896): "from the opera Genoveva". The second sheet contains sketches for two Lieder from Fünf heitere Gesänge op. 125 (Five Cheerful Songs), i.e. on the reverse for Nr. 1 Frühlingslied (Song of Spring) and on the obverse for Nr. 5 Husarenabzug (Decampment of the Hussars). The last bars of the sketch for Hussarenabzug did not fit on the page and were therefore written underneath the Genoveva sketch on the back of the first sheet. Both Lieder sketches are dated: Schumann composed them in Dresden on two consecutive days, 23rd and 24th July 1850, and Clara Schumann certified one more in the upper right-hand corner of Husarenabzug: "Manuscript by Robert Schumann | Clara Schumann". Datum: 2016
